MEET LAURA, GYPSY QUEEN

“Hey! I’m Laura — the dreamer, creator, and owner of The Gypsy Blues! I’ve always been a bit of a black sheep, and after years of trying to conform to societal standards, I quit a soul-draining job and started this business from scratch! I’m a tarot reader, hand-maker, dog lover, bonus-mom, and fiancée with a passion for everyday magic. I try to find the beauty, magic and wonder in everything that I do, and that’s what I love to share with others! There is so much more to life when you walk your own path, and that’s something I’ve been learning to do through The Gypsy Blues.”

What is the Gypsy Blues all about, and how did it come to be?

The Gypsy Blues is all about everyday magic — it can be as simple as lighting a candle, or putting on essential oils. With intention, positivity and belief, anything in life can hold a bit of magic! It is constantly surrounding us all, but sometimes we get too caught up in the mundane to appreciate it. I try to show people in the simplest way how to make even everyday things become more than just routine, and I love to help and heal people on their paths. Gypsy started as a daydream — I sat at my desk, wondering if that was all life had to offer. (The answer was NO!) Then, I got into making jewelry and wondered if I could create a brand around it, and now it has expanded and evolved so much!

What all do you offer?

I hand-make candles, essential oils, and a bit of jewelry (but in 2020 jewelry will be phasing out so I have more room to create super awesome stuff!). Scents and their healing properties are my passion, and I love the entire process of creating candles and oils — especially creating unique collections, and the promo videos/pictures that go with them! I am also a tarot reader, and I offer a few different kinds of readings, from full moon, to birthday, and so on. This year I’ll be adding spreads that I’ve personally created to my reading services so they’ll have even more of a unique touch! The Gypsy Blues basically offers all kinds of everyday magic that can help you in so many ways!

How did you learn how to make all your products?

I learned to make my products from my best friend...Google! When I first created jewelry in 2018 I had been watching YouTube videos and thought “hmm, I bet I could do that” — and I did! When I started creating candles and essential oils, I hit a whole new ballgame and had to really teach myself through trial and error, but now it’s my favorite part of the business. As far as tarot reading, I’ve always had an intuitive gift and started exploring forms of divination a little over 2 years ago. After reading for myself, friends, and family, I realized that my ability and the way I use my cards can really help people heal and learn, and I’ve been offering my service ever since.

What are some of your GIANT business goals?

Oh man...my giant business goals?! I feel like there are so many things I want to accomplish! I’d say my biggest goal is to open a physical shop one day and have it be my full time job. My fiancé and I have dreams of opening a store and adding on a skate shop in the back so it can be a combination of us! We’d love to create something to pass onto our kids. But for now, I have goals of forming a strong, supportive community (which I call my Blues Babes); crafting more unique candles, oils, and other secret projects that are in the works; and teaching more people about everyday magic, and how to feel & see it within themselves and their lives.

What is your support system like? How does that help you in your business?

My support system is amazing! I really do have to give credit to my fiancé because without him, I would’ve never quit that job I hated and had the courage to start my business. My friends and family have been supportive too, and always share my posts and tell people about my products! I’m constantly putting candles and oils up people’s noses and getting their opinion, and so far no one has gotten tired of it so that’s a good sign, right?!

What is your go-to method for making your ideas a reality?

I make my dreams a reality by just doing it! Depending on what that dream is, I’ll do some research on the best way to bring it to life, but most of the time I can create a plan on my own and work towards it. I’ve learned from being an entrepreneur that I actually have a really good work ethic and a strong drive, so once I put my mind to something I go for it! I might fall off track at times but I always know how to pick myself back up and get to work.

What are your top 5 favorite motivational quotes?

Top 5 motivational quotes...wow! This one took me a minute to remember the quotes I love but here they are:

“Until the lion learns how to write, every story will glorify the hunter.”

“Her mother told her she could grow up to be anything she wanted to be, so she grew up to become the strongest of the strong, the strangest of the strange, the wildest of the wild, the wolf leading the wolves.”

“Beauty without kindness and bravery is just a pretty, empty shell, my dear.”

“It costs you nothing to dream, but everything not to.”

“A flower does not think of competing with the flower next to it — it just blooms.”

If you could tell your pre-entrepreneur self anything, what would it be?

If I could tell pre-entrepreneur Laura anything...it would be a mixture of:

“Don’t be discouraged when things don’t work out the way you planned. They weren’t meant to, and there is so much more waiting for you.”

“Don’t compare your journey to anyone else’s. You, and your brand, are entirely unique.”

“You will find people who love and support what you do. It will take time, but they’re out there, waiting.”

“Trust your gifts, your intuition, and listen to what the Universe is telling you. Don’t be afraid to dream.”

“Don’t rush into things you can’t fully commit to. There’s no need to add stress to yourself! Divine timing is key.”

What are your favorite/most effective ways to stay inspired and motivated?

I pull my inspiration from just about everything! My mind is constantly going, and my hands are always ready to create something new. I’m mostly inspired by being in nature, reading books & poetry, and making my work space/home fit the ~aesthetic~ of my brand. With candles and oils, smells are obviously a big part of it! I get inspired by certain scents to create entire collections, names, marketing, etc. I’ve definitely hit walls before but I always get re-inspired and ready to create something magical.
